Professor Mika Gissler
Mika Gissler is a full Professor and hold professorships and faculty appointments at the National Institute for Health and Welfare, the University of Turku, Finland, the University of Oulu, Finland, and Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. His main research focus has been in utilization of routinely collected health and welfare registers. These include the Medical Birth Register, Hospital Discharge and Outpatient Register, Prescription Register and Cause-of-Death Registers with experience using registers in all Nordic countries (Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland), in several European countries (e.g. Germany and Estonia) and outside Europe (Australia, Israel and US). Professor Mika Gissler has worked with international collaborative projects for more than 20 years. The main research interests include perinatal and maternal health, childhood and adolescent health, sexual and reproductive health, mental health, migrant health and use of health care services. Increasingly, the studies have included a longitudinal component, usually from the prenatal period until adulthood.
